Hello World!

Welcome to my corner of the internet.

For some time now, I've wanted my own space to share my thoughts, what I'm learning, and part of my journey in the world. And I always wanted to combine that with an aspiration to learn more and play around with writing code and building a website that I want, and that matches me at a point in time.

Plus, I've always enjoyed browsing and reading other people's blogs - just slowly making my way around this interconnected internet and stumbling upon gems and enjoyable moments. So I suppose that feeling is something I wanted to share with other people, if someone just happens to stumble across this site or maybe even this very post.

Thirdly, I am not a fan of the social feeds that we find toxifying the world around us today, and I have focused a lot recently on not getting distracted or led astray by them. The funny thing is that they were supposed to be more like this in the beginning, somewhere for friends to share with other friends what's been happening in their world - but now they're mostly a tide of destruction full of waves of ads, influencers, AI-generated content, trigger bait and the things you didn't join the platform for in the beginning.

And finally, this is a place for me to share my work with the world, however small or large. I want this to be somewhere to share my wide range of interests and to continually foster and encourage my learning journey. I'm already doing that across my two family businesses, but I want a place for the broader interests that don't necessarily fit into their domain. Instead of just consuming content as our social feeds push for, I want to share what I am learning and, as Austin Kleon would tell us all to do, Show Your Work!

So that's what I am going to do. I don't know how consistently or what I am going to share, but what I do know is that I have taken the first steps on what I hope will be a magical journey full of learning, connection and enjoyment by doing something that is really quite simple - sharing with the world.

And with this being the first post on the site, I thought it would be good to thank some of the people inspiring me with this build. First, to Herman, thank you for creating Bear Blog. Robert Birming, thank you for your Bearming theme, which serves as the base of this site. Thanks to Steph Ango for inspiring me with your site design and the Kepano colour theme. Nat Eliason thanks for the inspiration behind your books page, and finally, to iA Writer and Supernotes for creating some wonderful fonts to use on the site.
